The LIVESTRONG Foundation, a cancer organization whose mission is to inspire and empower people affected by cancer. LIVESTRONG was something my late brother Jim was very passionate about, especially as they offered support and encouragement during his cancer fight. It will be 10 years in January since cancer took Jim, but my support of the organization and their mission has continued.
Jim was a Vice President of Owens Companies and one of our real innovators. I always say, “he was the brains of the operation”. A Professional Engineer, and having an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, were unique attributes that allowed Jim to wear many hats; from engineering to marketing to leading our Automation Division. Even when Jim got sick, he continued to push through at work. He was an inspiration to many at Owens Companies.
When Jim passed away, I knew I wanted to honor him in some way. Carrying on his legacy by volunteering my time through LIVESTRONG only made sense. I am a Senior LIVESTRONG Leader serving the greater Twin Cities community and represent the Foundation at the state and national level advocation for cancer funding. Participating in LIVESTRONG fundraising through an Endowment in Jim’s name has allowed me and my family and friends to show our support for the cause financially. Raising funds for this LIVESTRONG keeps me connected with my brother and helps others facing the fight.
If you are interested in supporting LIVESTRONG in honor of Jim, I invite you to donate along with me, www.teamlivestrong.org/fundraising/johnowens2018
