But, don’t wait to for the hottest day to get your air conditioning serviced! You know there are hot days right around the corner; it could be in the 90’s in a week! Oh right, it was 98 degrees HOT on May 14th.
So now is the time. Central air conditioners need to have annual maintenance checks, like changing the oil and the filter in your car. It’s the regular maintenance that keeps your house and family happy and cool, keeps your costs down, and your energy use efficient.
Annual air conditioner inspections are important, but there are other things you can do on your own to make sure your air conditioner is happy and working smoothly. Following these tips will help keep your air conditioner healthy in between inspections:
- Turn off your air conditioner’s fan and gently clean the blower fan fins to ensure that they run smoothly. Be careful when doing this, however, because the fins bend fairly easily and may be damaged by sharp objects.
- Locate your air conditioner’s condenser unit (the big box outside) and make sure it is free of leaves and other objects that can reduce its efficiency. Hose them out of the way and make sure to prune any nearby bushes and shrubs so nothing blocks your air conditioning unit. Finally, check the drain when the weather gets humid to make sure that moisture is being carried away from the system.
- Make sure you keep your air conditioner’s filter well maintained. Every month, take the filter out and clean or replace it, but make sure you put a new one back in. Never run your air conditioner without a filter—doing so can seriously damage your unit.
This month, Minnesotans witnessed 32 ° to 100° in a span of 58 hours? Paul Douglas explained it as; “Like turning on a light switch: instant blast-furnace heat. It was 102° at St. James, but only 44° in Grand Marais.”
Weather in Minnesota, it’s what puts us on the map! But remember, there is no such thing as bad weather, just un-prepared people. BE PREPARED!
